The ASTS seeks to recognize a distinguished ASTS member, particularly underrepresented faculty members, whose service and/or scholarly work has significant impact and garnered national and international distinction. The ASTS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award is an official academic recognition that the awardee has made impactful contributions to the ASTS.
Special preference will be given to ASTS members who advance the society’s strategic focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Award Amount: The award recipient will receive $1,500 honorarium, hotel accommodations for three nights (room and tax only), and all-access registration to the Winter Symposium.
Eligibility & Requirements:
- ASTS Regular Member
- Be a faculty member with an appointment at a UNOS/OPTN approved transplant center.
- Awardee may not concurrently receive any other ASTS award.
- ASTS members from population groups who are historically underrepresented in surgery and medicine are especially encouraged to apply.
Review Criteria
Applications will be scored based on but not limited the following criteria:
- Track record of academic excellence and scholarly productivity, as demonstrated by publications, policy changes, and/or other indices of scholarly impact and innovation.
- Anticipated scholarly impact within the broad mission areas of academic medicine, such as education, leadership, health care delivery and improvement in transplant access, and/or research of underserved and vulnerable groups, including research related to population health, and health disparities and the social determinants of health.
- Advancement of ASTS strategic focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Participation in minority affairs/diversity committees of academic institutions, advocacy groups, medical societies, or transplant organizations.
